Occupational Therapy

The Village Care Centre offers a full service Occupational Therapy Department which is open to Residents and Non-Residents by appointment. The occupational therapist will conduct an assessment to examine how a patient completes their daily activities and to identify the difficulties they experience. They will then devise strategies to help overcome these difficulties and restore a greater level of independence to the patient by helping to deliver overall improvements in their daily life.

The Services provided by the Occupational Therapy Department include:

-Initial and ongoing assessments of a patients’ ability to function in relation to the normal requirements of living i.e. dressing, eating, bathing etc.

-Home arrangements are assessed. At this point the OT makes an assessment of what adaptations you will need to make to your home and appliances such as the introduction of a chair lift, a downstairs bathroom etc.

-Assistance with the provision of appropriate aids and appliances

-Help with the application processes for disability grants if eligible

-Advice/Assistance to family or carers in relation to changes that need to be made to the patients dwelling etc

Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy services are partly covered by Ireland’s health insurers; VHI, Quinn and Hibernian Aviva. The level of coverage depends on the patients’ specific package and can vary from €13 per session to €30 per session. It is important to check this information carefully and pay special attention to any excess limits which may be present on you policy.
